Poker Goddess
Every Tuesday night at Sublime there is a poker match. I have been playing since I got here, and have done fairly well for a beginner. Last night I played and was getting some really good hands in the beginning, so I was playing lots of hands and built up my stack early on, allowing me to sit back and let other players knock each other out when I had crap cards. Slowly but surely people were getting eliminated and I made it to the final table. Alex was there with me actually, and I knocked him out (sorry babe!), and then after a few more people were gone it was just me and this guy who plays regularly.
Alex was sitting by me, giving me little tips here and there because when you get to this stage in the game and there are very few people left, the way you play has to change. And since I don't get this far often, I don't know this so Alex was helping me a little. Eventually Tom, the guy who oversees the poker games, asked Alex to kind of sit back from the table. Guess they thought he was playing my game for me- which he wasn't. No biggie, I felt that I knew what I was doing. got a hand of 8-10 (i think) and was the big blind, he called, and we saw the flop. I think 5,7,9 came out, so i was 1 away from a straight. I put in a huge raise, he called, then out came a 6, so I had the straight. another big raise, he went all in. I called him on it. we still needed to see the Turn card and when that came out it was a Jack, so I had a straight of 7-8-9-10-J and won.
The guy was not very pleased. As we were leaving the table I put my hand out and said good game and he totally gave me the flimsy-girly hand shake and didn't say anything. What a poo. There weren't very many people in the pub left, Dan and Danny were working and they congratualted me, a few of the guys from the poker remained and Alex. He was annoyed that the guys were being such wankers and not congratulating me. Alex was really pleased, and that was enough for me so I didn't care about the others. We had a victory beer and at one point Alex spoke up and said to everyone "Can we all give Triana a round of applause for winning tonight?" Him, Dan and Danny applauded and I think the other guys were kind of like "clap.....clap...." Jerks. Would have been nice to be celebrated but really I was happy that Alex was proud of me winning.
So now what is going to happen is I will get a text message with information about an online poker game that only those who have won during the month of July get, the game will be sometime in August and then the top 5 players or the winner from that game will get an all-expense paid trip to Las Vegas to play in a $10,000 buy-in game which they pay for! Jesus....what have I gotten myself into, haha. Highly doubt I will make it to Vegas, but who knows. Will have to start practicing my online poker skills, game runs a bit different since you are online and don't get to see people's faces or body language, so you have to read them in different ways. Will let you know how it turns out.
