I am protesting your sexism.

Upon moving to England one of the first things I noticed was how much more sexist of a country it is compared to the California. Granted, I know I come from one of the most liberal, equal opportunity, anti-"ism" region of the whole United States, but some of the stuff I was coming across I just could not comprehend. Mostly it's how the men around here act towards women and speak about them very much the "you are my bitch, cook me dinner!" attitude. I know that for most of the guys it's just them being macho, other's I am pretty sure that is what they truly believe. And I know the US has its fair share of "macho" guys too, guess growing up in the Bay Area you don't see it that much.

For the most part I have handled it well, trying to not take it too personal, realizing it's a cultural difference. BUT, last night at poker there was a sign up sheet for this amature poker tournament going on. The guys were passing it around, and Neil, who was the poker-overseer for the night, said "Oh and there is a women's sign up sheet too." Excuse me? Why of all things in the world that have to be seperated by sex is a poker tournament one of them? Our league is not seperated by sex, even the world league tournaments you see on TV aren't, so what's the deal? After Nick signed up for it he handed me the clipboard and I said no, I am protesting this, it's bullsh*t. Maybe I am taking it too seriously but honestly, what is the difference in POKER to have guys and girls play seperate? So yeah, that sorta wound me up last night. Had to get it off my chest and share.

That's just wrong! Talk about unfairness! Maybe women cannot play the men because they are afraid we're going to kick their butts!
